Getting a little more serious this time. Kris, a friend of mine, came over earlier today and wanted to watch a movie. I had just recently watched Lucio Fulci’s “City of the Living Dead”, the first of the unofficial “Gates of Trilogy”, and thought my guest would enjoy it as well
During the course of the movie I was unconsciously jacking up the volume knob on the speakers everytime an opening of one of Mr. Frizzi’s tracks would play, and Kris was impressed and kept commenting to me that I should play it on the organ. So I was inspirired to do some kind of tribute to the movie, composer, and director, but because of my hearing I wanted to try something different. I could try to get the timing right in my head on a solo and hope to line it up in an editor.. or play along with it from some kind of live source. So I didn’t know how I could do a live recording over what’s already one of the best masterpieces ever recorded in horror music history, but I had to try. I put my laptop on the kitchen counter and played the track on as low of a volume level as I could hear it with the L-103’s expression pedal set at a fixed volume. Then I fined tuned the microphone sensitivity of my Logitech VX9000 webcam “as close” as I could get it by doing three or four test records. This actually took awhile to get right because of the bass pedal/s’s tendency to be overbearing in the actual live environment. I’ve also been really enjoying the percussion switch on the upper manuals…I can really hear it’s “TWANG”
This is as close as I can get to doing this without being able to hear *for now…or until I get a really nice pair of headphones*
A mellow thanks to Christina Oldi of Greece, your pure silver spider was set perfectly on the castle but little Leslie had other plans for it but it’s there… hanging by a thread.
VERY special thanks to Mr. Fabio Frizzi for his kindness in allowing me to express myself… and to his continued success as one of Rome’s finest current day composers.
And to Lucio Fulci… THE Godfather of gore. Your legacy will live forever. May you rest in peace.
