Link building strategies I am interested in, not link farms as that is black hat seo but fair and simple link exchange

You could write articles and submit them to article directories with a link to your site in the bio. If you don't have time you could pay someone to do the article writing for you.
SEO Elite has a feature for submitting the articles to over 60 directories because this most likely takes a lot of time if you do it manually. It also has a feature for finding and contacting high quality link partners.
In the long run it will be worth it since you could probably end up with a top ranking website in the search engines..

This is maybe like an old stuff, but the best link building strategy is to get links from quality and relevant websites with yours, either a one-way link, or reciprocal.
Note that the link title should reflect with your desired keywords. Don't ignore internal link also, as internal links would also be a benefit.;
