I just got a new IMAC…question about software.?
I just bought a new i-mac, and because of the price (over $2,000.00) I didn't get anything extra except for the extended warranty. Now I'm looking into getting software to do articles (like newspaper articles, or magazines) that I can add photos, and write articles for work.
Does anyone know of any software that I need to do this kind of stuff, or is there a download site that I can go to? Please let me know. Thank you, and any help would do…Armyn
Try some of the following (they're all open source and free):
NeoOffice - office suite for Mac (similar to MS Office)
Scribus - Page Layout (similar to PageMaker)
Gimp - image editing (similar to Photoshop)
Inkscape - Illustrations (similar to Illustrator)
Also check out http://www.opensourcemac.org/ for more open source software for the Mac.

(1) Google star office, see if that would do you.
(2) Use iWork (only £39).

TextEdit would be your best option. TextEdit is including in your iMac. If you want something with more options, you can download OpenOffice for free at OpenOffice.org.

Scribus is fantastic layout software. I use it extensively. It works well with Openoffice.org, which is also free, and very nice. GIMP and Inkscape, too.
