Software Ideas for eliminating handwritten data entry?
At work our operators come in every morning, read sched. of parts to run, get a bill of material 'BOM'(which has many blank spots for data entry by hand). Then have to reference the parts on sched so that they can grab the proper 'first article' (contains part numbers) to input the info on the BOM.
Always have more parts then spaces on BOM, so more are needed. THEN readings on parts are taken (30 readings every 2 hrs) and hand written in blanks provided. At end of day, the total parts run, passed, and scrapped are recorded for each part, then totaled for final count. ALL HAND WRITTEN, wasting apprx. 1hr per area (15 areas per 24hr production) Office workers then re-input the data into excel from BOM.
I need a software thats user friendly enough for workers to point n' click to enter this data from an indexed list of parts and allows numPad entry of readings then saved to excel sheet. excel sheet is too confusing for most operators. !out of room! need more info? Paul_Piked@yahoo.com
At our work, the software that takes the readings, saves them in a database along with all the other particular info from that run. It's all done automatically, once the initial data is entered. I am one of the software developers. If you would like, I can take a look at what you've got and possibly write you something or at the very least, let you know what you need to tell a local developer so that they can programthis for you…

If you are looking for something simple i would use an access database. You can design forms for input that will make even the most idiotic user look like a champ and the whole database can be imported into excel. Access has its own query and reporting option so i don't know why you would need to transfer to excel, but regardless i have made many databases for tracking and inputting data and access is my weapon of choice.

It is possible to write such software. Just post your requirements at freelance website like http://www.getafreelnacer.com/ and let many programmers bid for it, then you can hire whoever you like.
