XYZ Co. is a US based multi national corporation with a presence the world over.

Following a great deal of research over a period of nearly 3 years they bring out a set of great products and launch them with lots of advertisements on TV, in newspapers, trade magazines and by various other means.

Their TV advertisements capture the imagination of the people, their website appears to be breath taking and so on.

Their ad consultancy firm even wins an award for their great TV advertisements later in the year for its unique features and imagination.

Their products are hailed as some of the best in the industry and so on.

But what about their marketing results?

After a year of pushing their products in so many ways, the company finds that the results are dismal. They find that some of their competitors’ products are doing much better business with much less research efforts, ad budgets, sophisticated websites and so on, so that they are able to earn higher profits and get returns of their investments in less time.

The frustrated company officials start blaming each other, their ad agency, their dealers and ultimately the customers themselves as lacking in knowledge and being irrational.

So what is the problem? Nobody seems to know.

The failure may be due to several reasons, but the main reason may be that in their haste, the company had failed to do a proper market research and failed to do test marketing of the products in different regions or to their target customers, so as to understand what exactly their customers were looking for in these products, their prices, features and so many other parameters.

Since they had overshot their budgets and the products development had taken much longer than planned, they were anxious to bring out the products quickly and get the returns for their efforts as early as possible.

But primarily the customers were not impressed by the products.

That being the case, other things such as breath taking website or impressive TV ads did not induce them to buy the products.

Those were only interesting items for the customers to pass their time, but when they wanted the products, they chose the competitors’ brands.

Many businesses fail due to this lapse on their part. They fail to “Connect” to their customers.

They may have the best knowledge about their products, but they do not make the required efforts to understand what the customers want, so they fail.

The same logic applies to writing articles for websites or blogs.

So, look for what the customers are seeking and then supply the solution.

If they are convinced, your article will be considered as the best article, even if the article may not be highly sophisticated or in high flying language or lacking in presentation and so on.
